Starting Your New Smile in Hillsboro
Your first free consultation at Laidlaw Orthodontics won’t hurt a bit, even though a doctor’s office can sometimes seem intimidating.
Your first visit with us is a chance for Dr. Laidlaw to evaluate your needs and address any concerns you have about your smile, and as a mom herself, she knows how to make kids feel at ease.
1.
Let’s Get to Know Each Other
At your first free consultation, you’ll be welcomed by our friendly team, introduced to our expert orthodontist, Dr. Andrea Laidlaw, and shown around our Hillsboro office.
Next, Dr. Laidlaw will conduct a thorough examination, checking the alignment and position of your teeth and taking an analysis of your bite.
Then, if needed, she will explain the nature of your problem and recommend a treatment plan. If this is the optimal time for you to begin treatment based on your individual needs, we will arrange for diagnostic records to be taken.
Our highly-trained, orthodontic treatment coordinator will then take some digital photographs of your teeth using our iTero digital scanner. You don’t have to worry about gagging on any goopy impressions at our office.
These photos, models and X-rays will be used to thoroughly evaluate your dental and skeletal relationships. Many times, these diagnostic records can be taken on the same day as your first visit.

Any Questions?
After the diagnostic records, we will schedule a consultation with you and Dr. Laidlaw to discuss our findings and recommendations.
This is a perfect time for you to ask questions about the orthodontic process and financial arrangements, like:
- Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
- Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
- What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
- Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
- How long will treatment take?
- How much will it cost?
- What are my payment options?

Creating Your Custom Treatment Plan
Dr. Laidlaw will point out specific areas of concern and show you what kind of corrections you can expect by showing photos and videos of similar cases. She’ll take as much time as you need to answer your questions and decide what kind of treatment is best for you.
Dr. Laidlaw and her assistant will then walk you through the process. They’ll explain everything—from scheduling and expected discomfort levels, to finances and payment options.
If Dr. Laidlaw determines at your first visit that your child is not ready for treatment, they may be enrolled in our pre-orthodontic guidance program.
This system helps determine the best time for treatment, and basically consists of brief, complimentary visits once or twice a year to monitor dental and facial development and to determine the best time to begin treatment.

Start Braces that Same Day
The orthodontic treatment process involves a series of orthodontic visits to Laidlaw Orthodontics. You’re important to us so we want you to be confident that you’re receiving the best orthodontic care possible in Hillsboro.
Once you feel like we've answered all of your questions about treatment, you can start your treatment that same day. We value your time, and we know you want to make the most of your visit.
