Welcome to Laidlaw Orthodontics! We’re excited to work with you towards improving your oral health and achieving a confident smile. The first step in this orthodontic journey is an initial consultation, which will allow us to get to know each other a bit, evaluate your needs, and address your concerns. This is one of the most important appointments you’ll have with us, but if you’re unfamiliar with orthodontics, you may not be sure what to expect. Don’t worry—we’re here to keep things fun and stress-free! With that in mind, let’s take a quick look at how our complimentary consultations work and what comes afterwards.
Keeping our community safe
In light of the current pandemic, we’ve made some changes to the way our appointments work. We are following the CDC and OSHA guidelines, and will continue to be diligent in making our office a safe environment. The health of our patients and staff has always been our top priority, and that’s more true now than it’s ever been! Here are the safety precautions we’ve put into place for the time being.
- We have a strict patient-only policy in the clinical area at the moment. If you are accompanying a minor child, you may wait in the reception area with your face covering in place, or return to your car or wait in the courtyard after checking them in.
- Masks are required before entering the building.
- We will be screening every patient’s temperature at the door with a contactless thermometer, and will also be asking a few health screening questions.
- In the clinical area, we have closed down every other chair in order to maximize social distancing.
- If you are a parent or caregiver, a team member will send a text message to update you once the appointment is complete. We will call to schedule the next appointment.
*We are offering virtual consultations if you do not feel comfortable coming to the office at this time!
What happens during a consultation?
At the beginning of your appointment, we will take photographs and x-rays of your teeth that you will be able to take home! After you meet Dr. Laidlaw, she will conduct a thorough oral examination. This will include an assessment of your x-rays and the alignment and position of your teeth and a complete analysis of your jaw relationships and bite. Once this exam is complete, she’ll explain the nature of the problem(s) if there is one, and recommend a customized plan for treatment. If this is the optimal time for you to begin treatment based on your individual needs, we will take a set of diagnostic models or a digital scan of your teeth. You will have the opportunity to ask Dr. Laidlaw and our treatment coordinator any questions you may have about your case and your treatment options.
We’ll cover quite a few topics during this appointment, including:
- if treatment is needed immediately or if waiting is the best course of action
- what treatment options would best serve your smile
- What appliances will we be using- braces or Invisalign
- an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total investment required for your new smile
- any payment or financing options we have available to you
If your child is the patient, and Dr. Laidlaw determines at your first visit that they are not yet ready for treatment, you’ll have the option to enroll them in our pre-orthodontic guidance program. This system consists of brief complimentary visits once or twice a year that will monitor your child’s dental and facial development to determine the best time to begin treatment.
Investing in a healthy smile
Here at Laidlaw Orthodontics, we believe everyone should have access to high-quality orthodontic care that fits their budget. During your consultation, we’ll outline all the fees associated with your treatment and ensure you understand each one before moving forward. This total cost will vary from case to case as every patient has specific needs and goals.
We are proud to offer a variety of affordable treatment options, and also have multiple payment options to meet your needs! For your convenience, we accept cash, checks, most major credit cards, and debit cards. We also offer no-interest monthly financing with automatic secure online payments and a discount for treatment that is paid in full in advance.
If your dental insurance covers orthodontic treatment, you will receive the benefit of reduced personal costs. Many insurance policies have a lifetime orthodontic benefit that is distinct from regular dental insurance. Remember that insurance policies vary, and we will review your insurance to determine the appropriate course of action. Once treatment has begun, we will be happy to file your claims for you. To help us with your insurance filing, please complete the insurance questions on our questionnaire before your first appointment!
Please remember that orthodontic insurance is a benefit for you or your child. If, during the course of treatment, your benefits change, the financially responsible party is accountable for all charges.
